The Mtentu Hike In Experience is our signature three-night guided adventure. Guests hike approximately 10–12 km per day from the Wild Coast Sun area to the Mnyameni River, continuing through the Xolobeni red deserts and spectacular waterfall pools via Sikhombi estuary heading to Mtentu Camp on Day 2, and then explore the incredible Mkambati nature reserve on Day 3. The package includes accommodation, all meals + drinks, Kayaking, qualified local guides and curated activities. This experience is designed for Family groups of varied fitness levels.
Absolutely. Mtentu is particularly well suited to families looking for an active outdoor adventure. Family tents accommodate adults and children, and activities can be adapted according to the age and ability of the group.
Not necessarily. A normal stay at Mtentu can be as relaxed or adventurous as you want it to be. Our guided hikes and adventure packages involve more walking and are best suited to guests with a reasonable level of fitness. We can recommend activities and routes based on your group’s ability.
Mtentu is an eco comfortable tented camp designed for guests who want an authentic Wild Coast experience. We offer family tents and dome tents, with communal bathrooms, showers, a kitchen, lapa and fire pit. The camp is off-grid and solar powered, allowing you to properly disconnect and enjoy the surroundings.

For our guided Hike In experiences, a 35% deposit secures your booking, with the balance payable 60 days before arrival.
Yes. Full-camp bookings are ideal for families, groups, friends, school groups, sports teams and private retreats. Exclusive use gives your group the freedom to enjoy the camp, activities and facilities together.
Mtentu Camp is situated on the north bank of the Mtentu River on South Africa’s Wild Coast, next to Mkambati Nature Reserve. It is a remote, natural setting surrounded by coastal forest, rivers, waterfalls and spectacular beaches.
Yes - the road to Mtentu camp is constantly maintained - although it is 47km on gravel. Mtentu camp is 270km from Durban airport. High rise vehicle is preferable and 4x4 or all whell drive is advantageous during the rainy season. Mtentu is the most accessible destination in northern pondoland.
There is plenty to do along the coastline, on the rivers and inland at the amazing number of waterfalls within walking distance. Depending on your package, activities include guided hikes, kayaking, waterfall excursions, birding, wildlife viewing, beach walks and cultural experiences. We can also arrange guided experiences into Mkambati Nature Reserve.
Mtentu is surrounded by some of the Wild Coast’s most spectacular scenery. Expect dramatic coastal landsacpes, pristine beaches, lush indigenous forest, rolling grasslands, winding rivers and spectacular waterfalls that drop towards the Indian Ocean. Guests can also experience the rugged beauty of Mkambati Nature Reserve, with its untouched coastline, wildlife and wide-open landscapes. It’s remote, wild and genuinely off the beaten track.
